PITTSBURGH, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Ronny Paulino's grand slam homer was one of Pittsburgh's 20 hits Wednesday as the Pirates overwhelmed St. Louis 15-1.
Tony Armas (1-3) picked up the easy win by going 6 1/3 innings while giving up a run on four hits. The Cardinals had won their previous four games.
St. Louis starter Braden Looper (8-9) allowed seven runs on eight hits over four innings.
Looper retired the first two men he faced in the opening inning and then gave up five runs before he could get the third out.
Pittsburgh scored seven times in the eighth inning with Jose Bautista contributing a two-run single and Bay finishing off the outburst with a run-scoring double.
