Bidder offers $4.3 for Ali training camp

DEER LAKE, Pa., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- A man so far known only by his eBay handle appears to be the high bidder for Muhammad Ali's former boxing training camp in Pennsylvania.

Boratt18 offered $4,301,300 for the camp in Deer Lake north of Harrisburg, the Harrisburg Patriot-News reported. If he turns out to have the money, he will have paid a record on the on-line auction site for sports memorabilia, far surpassing the $2.7 million put up in 1999 for Mark McGwire's 1999 70th home run ball.

At one point, someone offered more than $5 million for the camp, only to be disqualified. Some disqualified bids turned out to be the work of teenagers.

George Dillman, a Pennsylvania businessman who owns the camp, has had experience with deals falling through. Last year, a New Jersey group signed an agreement and gave him a check for $6 million, which bounced.

"It is not over until there is money in my bank, not theirs," Dillman said.

Boratt18's eBay profile says he is from Malaysia, although others involved with the deal describe him as Mexican.
