STOCKHOLM, Sweden, July 30 (UPI) -- Fifth-seeded Nathalie Dechy was a first-round upset victim at the $145,000 Nordic Light Open women's tennis tournament in Sweden.
Dechy was defeated by Tsvetana Pironkova, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, on the first day of the hard-court tournament at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium.

Three seeded players advanced out of the first round Monday. No. 2 Agnieszka Radwanska had little trouble in a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Tatjana Malek. Third-seeded Emilie Loit was a 6-4, 6-2 straight-set winner over Andrea Petkovic, and No. 8 Vera Dushevina needed a third set before prevailing, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, over Hanna Nooni.
Klara Zakopalova eliminated Michaela Johansson, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.
