EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., July 27 (UPI) -- New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan did not report to training camp Friday amid reports he is considering retirement.
The Giants noted on their Web site that the seven-time Pro Bowl choice was expected to report for his 15th training camp -- until Thursday evening, when Strahan's agent, Tony Agnone, told Giants General Manager Jerry Reese in a phone call that his client would be a no-show.
"I thought it was a little bit of late notice, but that's the way the NFL works sometimes," Reese said. "Tony didn't give me any reason. He didn't talk about contract at all."
Various reports have speculated the 35-year-old Strahan is not happy about his contract.
Strahan has 132 ½ sacks in 14 NFL seasons, tied with Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor both for the most in franchise history. Strahan holds the league record for most sacks in one season with 22 1/2 in 2001.
He was sidelined last season by a foot injury.
