Moya moves on to Croat semifinals

UMAG, Croatia, July 27 (UPI) -- Guillermo Canas and Carlos Moya will meet in the semifinals of the $485,000 Croat Open tennis tournament after winning their quarterfinal matches Friday.

Moya, who has won the tournament in Croatia four times, defeated fellow Spaniard David Ferrer, 7-5, 6-4, while Argentina's Canas dispatched Frenchman Gilles Simon, 6-2, 6-1.

In other quarterfinal action on the clay courts at Umag, Romanian Andrei Pavel came from behind to beat Italy's Filippo Volandri, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3. Serbian qualifier Viktor Troicki landed in his first ATP semifinal by beating Argentine Carlos Berlocq, 7-5, 6-2.

The Pavel-Troicki semifinal will also be played on Saturday.
