WASHINGTON, July 22 (UPI) -- Austin Kearns' eighth-inning three-run homer Sunday fueled the Washington Nationals' 3-0 victory over Colorado.
Washington starter Tim Redding shut out the Rockies on five hits in 6 2/3 innings, with two walks and one strikeout. Jon Rauch (5-2) gave up a hit and a walk in a scoreless eighth to get the win, and Chad Cordero gave up a hit and walk before shutting the door in the ninth to pick up his 19th save.
Colorado starter Josh Fogg shut out the Nationals on three hits and three walks over six innings, and LaTroy Hawkins kept the shutout going through the seventh -- but Washington got to Jorge Julio (0-3) in the eighth.
D'Angelo Jimenez singled and went to second on a passed ball before Julio issued an intentional walk Ryan Zimmerman. Kearns responded with his sixth homer of the season -- and his first in 53 games with the Nationals, who won for the fourth time in their last five games.
The Rockies have lost three of their last four.
