NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., July 21 (UPI) -- Local favorite Meaghan Francella was knocked out of the HSBC Women's World Match Play Championship Saturday.
Francella, seeded 33rd, lost a 4 & 3 decision to 40th-seeded Maria Hjorth of Sweden, ending her chances get her second career victory. Francella is from Port Chester, N.Y., about a 15-minute drive from this tournament.
Mi Hyun Kim, the 10th seed, advanced to the semifinals Saturday with a 1-up victory over 15th-seeded Jee Young Lee.
No. 12 Ai Miyazato is the second-highest seeded player remaining after posting a 1-up victory over Amy Hung and an earlier 2 & 1 win over Christina Kim.
In a fourth quarterfinal match, Seon Hwa Lee took a 3 & 2 victory over Lindsey Wright, who had knocked out Amy Sorenstam in the second round on Friday.
The four-day match play event ends Sunday with the two semifinal matches and the final.
