ATLANTA, July 20 (UPI) -- Juan Encarnacion singled in Albert Pujols with the go-ahead run in the eighth Friday night as the St. Louis Cardinals fought off Atlanta, 4-2.
St. Louis has won four out of five while Atlanta has lost four of five.
Pujols tied the game at 1-1 with a home run in the fourth, and that was still the score going into the eighth.
Pujols led off that inning with a double off Rafael Soriano (2-2) and Encarnacion promptly delivered his RBI single. Encarnacion went to third on a throwing error and scored the inning's second run on a single by pinch-hitter Chris Duncan.
That made a winner out of Adam Wainwright (9-7), who gave up a run on six hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings.
Jason Isringhausen allowed a run in the ninth, but earned his 19th save.
