WASHINGTON, July 20 (UPI) -- Aaron Cook threw seven shutout innings Friday night in carrying the Colorado Rockies to a 3-1 victory over Washington.

Colorado won for the fourth time in five games, overcoming an outstanding effort by Billy Traber.

Traber (2-1) gave up one earned run on three hits in four innings as an emergency starter. He had made 23 relief appearances this season before being asked to fill in for Jason Simontacchi, who went on the disabled list before the game with a sore right elbow.

Todd Helton drove in two of the Colorado runs -- both on sacrifice flies.
