MLB: Florida 4, St. Louis 0

MIAMI, July 17 (UPI) -- Rick Vanden Hurk pitched five scoreless innings and Hanley Ramirez had three RBI Tuesday as the Florida Marlins defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0.

Vanden Hurk (3-2), who was recalled earlier in the day from Class AAA Albuquerque, scattered five hits, walked three and struck out six in his first major league appearance since he defeated Kansas City June 16.

Justin Miller, Matt Lindstrom and Armando Benitez each pitched an inning of relief, while Lee Gardner and Taylor Tankersley worked the ninth in the combined shutout.

Ramirez had two hits -- including a two-run homer -- and also scored a run for the Marlins, who have won six of their last nine games.

Brad Thompson (6-4) allowed three runs and seven hits over six innings.
