Havret beats Mickelson in a playoff

GLASGOW, Scotland, July 15 (UPI) -- Gregory Havret beat Phil Mickelson Sunday on the first playoff hole to win the European Tour's Scottish Open Golf Tournament in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Frenchman snuck into the playoff after Mickelson bogeyed the 72nd hole in regulation.

The American had a three-shot advantage in the round, but collapsed with bogeys at final three holes.

Havret (68) and Mickelson (69) ended 14-under-par 270 on the course at the historic Loch Lohmond Country Club.

"It feels awesome to have won," Havret said. "It's just a fantastic dream come true."

His second career victory qualified him for next week's British Open.

South Africa's Ernie Els (65) was third at 13-under 271. He threatened, but saw his hopes dashed with a bogey at No. 16.

Luke Donald (64) of England, Sweden's Pelle Edberg (66), Louis Oosthuizen (68), and fellow South African Richard Sterne (64) shared fourth at 11-under 273.
