ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., July 13 (UPI) -- New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez said he won't talk about a new contract until the 2007 season ends.
Reports this week have said the veteran third baseman will command a $30 million price tag.
He signed a 10-year, $252-million contract with the Texas Rangers before he was dealt to the Yankees in 2004, and has three years and $24 million left on the deal.
On the Yankees' Web site, the team noted he has an option to become a free agent 10 days after the conclusion of the World Series, which would allow him to forfeit the final three years of the contract.
"I think it would be selfish on my part to talk about my contract status when our team desperately needs wins," Rodriguez said.
"We are not going to be negotiating during the season," his agent, Scott Boras, told the New York Post this week.
The 31-year-old Rodriguez hit his 495th career home run Thursday night at Tampa Bay.
