LOS ANGELES, July 12 (UPI) -- Soccer star David Beckham will be introduced during a Los Angeles Galaxy news conference Friday morning in a 30-minute ceremony.
In the audience at the 27,000-seat Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., will be an invited audience of season-ticket holders and sponsors' guests, Head Coach Frank Yallop, General Manager Alexi Lalas, and Major League Soccer Commissioner Dan Garber.
The former England captain and international star for Real Madrid will play his first game with the Galaxy July 21 against Chelsea FC in the World Series of Football tournament.
His first MLS game is Aug. 5 at Toronto FC.
Media reports have said Beckham will be paid $5.5 million in salary, but could make as much as $250 million in profit-sharing and endorsement deals.
His marquee in the United States has been further enhanced by his marriage to former Spice Girl Victoria Adams (Posh Spice) and the $22 million home he already has bought in Beverly Hills.
