MLB: N.Y. Yankees 14, LA Angels 9

NEW YORK, July 6 (UPI) -- Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run homer in his return Friday night as the New York Yankees produced a season-best 19 hits in a 14-9 win over the LA Angels.

Rodriguez had two hits and scored three times after missing his first game of the season Thursday night with a strained hamstring.

New York won for the fourth time in five games, with Jorge Posada collecting three hits and three RBI. Every New York starter had at least one hit and one RBI.

The Yankees did not take the lead for good until the sixth, when Rodriguez hit his homer off Chris Bootcheck (2-2) as part of a three-run inning that gave New York a 12-9 advantage.

It was the 493rd home run of his career, tying Lou Gehrig and Fred McGriff for 22nd place on the all-time MLB list.

Reliever Edwar Ramirez collected the victory.

Orlando Cabrera had three hits and three RBI, and Chone Figgins had two hits, three RBI and one run scored for the Angels.
