ARLINGTON, Texas, July 5 (UPI) -- Kelvim Escobar reached the 10-win mark with a seven-inning effort Thursday night as the Los Angeles Angels defeated Texas, 5-2.
Escobar (10-3) allowed one run and struck out eight over seven innings in helping the Angels avoid a series sweep.
Although he is having one of the best seasons of his career, Escobar learned prior to the game that he would not be on the American League All-Star team. He had been one of five finalists for the last AL position, which was determined by fan balloting.
Maicer Izturis drove in two runs with a triple and scored a run as the Angels won for only the third time in nine games.
Robinson Tejeda (5-8) lost for the fifth time in his last six decisions. He gave up four runs on six hits.
Despite the loss, Texas has gone 5
1 in its last six series. It is the first time in six years the Rangers have played six series without losing one of them.
