MLB: San Francisco 9, Cincinnati 5

CINCINNATI, July 4 (UPI) -- Fred Lewis hit his second grand slam of the season Wednesday afternoon as the San Francisco Giants beat Cincinnati, 9-5.

The fourth-inning blast helped erase an early 3-0 deficit. Lewis had three hits in all.


San Francisco's Randy Winn and Rich Aurilia both had two runs, two hits and one RBI; Ray Durham and Aurilia hit back-to-back homers; while Mark Sweeney added a solo homer as a pinch-hitter in the ninth for the Giants -- who banged out 13 hits and have split their last four games.

Winner Matt Cain (3-9) gave up four earned runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings, with two walks and six strikeouts.

Cincinnati's Ken Griffey Jr. had two runs, two hits and one RBI. Scott Hatteberg, Edwin Encarnacion and Juan Castro each drove in one run, and all four had two hits for the Reds, who have dropped seven of their last 10 games.

The loser was Matt Belisle (5-6).
