"If I ever win one of these big events I will thank (fellow South African) Ernie (Els) right there on the spot," Kamte said after his best one-round score on the European Tour. "He gave me the opportunities to play back home through his Foundation when no one else would give me the opportunities. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be sitting here today."

Benn Barham, Steven Jeppesen, Christian L. Nilsson and Graeme Storm all tied for third place at 5-under 66. Thomas Levet is seventh at 4-under 67. Defending champion John Bickerton was among 21 players tied for 38th at even-par 71.
