Federer, Nadal advance, Robredo upset

WIMBLEDON, England, June 28 (UPI) -- Eleventh-seeded Tommy Robredo was a straight-set upset victim Thursday, becoming the only top 16 seed not to advance to Wimbledon's third round.

On a day when the high-profile players such as World No. 1 Roger Federer and No. 2 Rafael Nadal rolled, Robredo dropped a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 decision to Wayne Arthurs.

Arthurs, 36, next goes against 35-year-old Jonas Bjorkman in the round of 32.

Federer needed 10 minutes Thursday to complete his rain-delayed second-round victory. Federer ended up with a 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 win over Juan Martin del Porto.

Federer is matched against 26th-seeded Marat Safin in third-round play. Safin defeated Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi 6-4, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) on Thursday.

Nadal dealt with a pesky Werner Eschauer 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 and will go against No. 28 Robin Soderling in his third-round match Saturday. Soderling was a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 winner over Sebastien Grosjean on Thursday.

Also Thursday, fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic ousted Amer Delic 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4); No. 6 Nikolay Davydenko rallied for a 3-6, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, 6-2 win over Chris Guccione; seventh-seeded Tomas Berdych beat Michal Llodra 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 7-6 (7-4); ninth-seeded James Blake defeated Andrei Pavel 6-4, 6-3, 6-3; 10th-seeded Marcos Baghdatis had a 6-0, 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (4-7), 6-2 victory over Nicolas Devilder;

No. 13-seeded Tommy Haas got by Tomas Zib 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4; 14th-seeded Mikhail Youzhny needed five sets to eliminate Gilles Simon 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4; 15th-seeded Ivan Ljubicic topped Jan Hernych 6-4, 6-3, 6-4; and No. 16 Lleyton Hewitt posted an easy 6-2 6-2, 6-1 victory over Simone Bolelli.
