With the score tied 5-5, Doug Slaten (3-1) took the mound to begin the 10th inning. Slaten got two quick outs, but served up a fastball to Abreu, who sent it over the wall in left field for a 6-5 lead.

Dodbers closer Takashi Saito needed only 11 pitches to complete his 1-2-3 outing in the bottom of the 10th and his 21st save.

Chad Billingsley started for the Dodgers, allowing five runs on four hits in four innings of work. He also added two RBI at the plate.
