ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., June 27 (UPI) -- Paul Konerko put Chicago in front with a two-run double in the eighth Wednesday and the White Sox held on to defeat Tampa Bay 5-3.
Mark Buehrle (5-4) went seven innings to get the win, allowing three runs on nine hits. He turned into the winning pitcher when the White Sox rallied from a 3-0 deficit by scoring five times in the seventh and eighth innings.
Bobby Jenkins worked a perfect ninth for his 20th save as Chicago beat the Devil Rays for the third straight time.
Chicago closed to within a run in the seventh and Scott Podsednik opened the eighth with a triple. Andy Gonzalez singled Podsednik home to tie the game, after which Jim Thome reached on a single.
Both runners moved up on a wild pitch by reliever Gary Glover (3-3) and they both scored on Konerko's double down the left field line.
