Mahan leads by two over DiMarco

CROMWELL, Conn., June 21 (UPI) -- Hunter Mahan shot an 8-under 62 Thursday and had the lead when play was suspended in the first round of the Travelers Championship at Cromwell, Conn.

PGA Tour officials decided to halt the action after two weather delays at the TPC River Highlands course, with 40 players still on the course. None had a realistic chance of catching Mahan, whose round was disrupted by the weather but who wound up owning a two-shot lead over Chris DiMarco.

DiMarco is beginning to approach his previous form after having missed time with a shoulder injury.

Brad Faxon, Bob Heintz, Michael Sim and Kenny Perry were tied for third place at 5-under 67.

The leader among those still on the course when play was stopped was Ryan Moore, who was 4-under with one hole to play.

Mahan -- who tied for second at the Travelers Championship in 2006 -- opened his round Thursday with four straight birdies. He is coming off a tie for 13th at last week's U.S. Open.
