Roddick, Ljubicic claim second-round wins

LONDON, June 12 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Andy Roddick and No. 5 Ivan Ljubicic both won Tuesday and advanced to the third round of the $900,000 Artois Championships in London.

Roddick, who won the tournament three consecutive years from 2003-2005, swept past Radek Stepanek 6-4, 6-4 in second-round play of the grass-court tournament.

Ljubicic also had little trouble in his 6-3, 6-4 straight-set win over Danai Udomchoke.

In first-round action, Ivo Karlovic upset ninth-seeded Mardy Fish, Gael Monfils topped Igor Andreev, 6-3, 6-4 and Sebastien Grosjean defeated Michael Berrer, 6-4, 6-2.

Also winning Tuesday were Robert Kendrick, Alex Kuznetsov, Frank Dancevic, Florent Serra, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Janko Tipsarevic and Marin Cilic.

Top-seed Rafael Nadal and defending champion Lleyton Hewitt open their tournament in the second round Wednesday. The tournament's top eight seeds received first-round byes.
