Sorenstam critical of Wie

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., June 6 (UPI) -- Annika Sorenstam has criticized Michelle Wie for withdrawing from last week's Ginn Tribute.

Wie, 17, opted out after 16 holes because of a persistent left wrist injury. She fractured her wrist in a February fall while running.

A bogey had left her at 14-over par, and in jeopardy of violating Rule 88, which would have barred her from playing in another LPGA event for the rest of the season.

"I should have stopped playing when I tweaked it on the 10th," Wie said Tuesday, "but stubborn as I am, I just kept playing."

She will play this weekend in the LPGA Championship at Havre de Grace, Md.

"I just feel there's a little bit of lack of respect and class just to leave a tournament like that and then come out and practice here," Sorenstam said.

Wie played in the PGA Sony Open in her native Hawaii in January with a right wrist injury.
