WASHINGTON, June 3 (UPI) -- Josh Bard hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs Sunday afternoon as the San Diego Padres beat Washington, 7-3.
Bard's homer staked San Diego to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. It was the second straight game in which the Padres built a big lead before the Nationals came to bat.
Marcus Giles had three runs and three hits; Hiram Bocachica hit a solo homer; Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-run double, to extend his hitting streak to 10 straight games; and former National Terrmel Sledge had three runs and three hits for the Padres -- who remained tied with the Dodgers atop the NL West.
Winner David Wells (3-3) yielded three earned runs and five hits in five innings.
The loser was Jason Simontacchi (2-4).
