MOOSIC, Pa., May 28 (UPI) -- Seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens pitched six scoreless innings Monday for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Clemens, 44, who is expected to move up to the New York Yankees for his next start, gave up just two hits and two walks, while striking out six.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre beat Toledo, 2-0.
Clemens, who was signed to a prorated $28 million contract May 6, made a pair of minor league starts prior to Monday. With Class AA Trenton Wednesday, he allowed three runs on six hits with four walks, a wild pitch and a hit batter in 5 1/3 innings -- so it was decided he needed at least one more minor league start before joining the Yankees.
Assuming this was his final minor league start, that would allow him to pitch Saturday at Boston. However, Yankees Manager Joe Torre is expected to hold him out until the next series in New York.
