MLB: San Diego 5, Chicago Cubs 1

SAN DIEGO, May 23 (UPI) -- Mike Cameron homered twice and Jake Peavy pitched six strong innings Tuesday, leading San Diego past Chicago 5-1.

Peavy (6-1) gave up just one run on four hits and a walk with six strikeouts for the Padres, who have won four of five. With one out in the top of the ninth and runners on first and second, San Diego closer Trevor Hoffman entered the game and retired the final two Chicago batters for his 12th save of the season.

Adrian Gonzalez also homered and had two RBI for San Diego.

Cliff Floyd went 2-for-4 and drove in the lone run for the Cubs, who have dropped two straight and four of six.

Chicago starter Rich Hill (4-4) was tagged for six hits and five runs through six innings of work. The southpaw also struck out eight and walked two.
