Zito (3-5) gave up six hits and seven runs in four innings. He also allowed seven of the 13 walks surrendered by San Francisco pitching.

Chad Gaudin (3-1) benefited from the outburst to get the win, allowing two runs on nine hits in seven innings.

Barry Bonds had two hits but did not homer and remains 10 away from equaling the all-time home run record.

The game concluded the first day of inter-league action this season with the American League winning eight and the National League taking five.
