MLB: NY Mets 8, Chi. Cubs 1

NEW YORK, May 16 (UPI) -- A two-run homer by Damion Easley in the fourth Wednesday night keyed a 12-hit attack and gave the New York Mets an 8-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

The start of the game was delayed by rain for three hours and seven minutes.

Easley's home run, his sixth of the season, gave the Mets a 4-0 lead and they rolled on behind the pitching of Jorge Sosa (3-0), who allowed only one hit through seven innings. Joe Smith and Billy Wagner worked the final two innings with Smith surrendering the only other hit the Cubs could muster.

Rich Hill (3-4) gave up four runs on seven hits in six innings to take the loss.
