Tigers put Bonderman on the DL

DETROIT, May 16 (UPI) -- Detroit Tigers right-hander Jeremy Bonderman was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of a blister on his right middle finger.

The team said the move was made two days before his next scheduled start Friday night against St. Louis.

"I can guarantee you that he would not have been ready to pitch," said manager Jim Leyland. Detroit will call up former first-round draft pick Andrew Miller to start against the Cardinals.

Bonderman is 2-0 with a 4.20 ERA in seven starts. He has walked only seven batters and struck 40 in 45 innings.

Miller, a left-hander, pitched 10 innings in relief after being called up at the end of August last season.

The activity came 2 1/2 months after the Tigers chose him with the sixth overall selection in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.
