MLB: San Diego 7, Cincinnati 1

SAN DIEGO, May 14 (UPI) -- Greg Maddox retired the first 16 batters he faced Monday in a 7-1 complete game victory by the San Diego Padres over the visiting Cincinnati Reds.

The win gave Maddux (3-2) his first complete game since Sept. 27, 2005 against the Pittsburgh Pirates and the 109th complete game of his career. The future Hall of Famer had 5 strikeouts to improve to 4,000 for his career.

Josh Bard and Mike Cameron both went 2-for-4 with two RBI each for the Padres, who have won three of their last four games.

Reds starter Matt Belisle (3-3) gave up seven runs on 10 hits in five innings of work, walking one with two strikeouts.

Ken Griffey Jr.'s sacrifice fly scored Juan Castro in the ninth inning to spoil Maddux' bid for a shutout.
