Sarah Lee leads LPGA event

WILLIAMSBURG, Va., May 10 (UPI) -- A round that equaled the course record Thursday gave Sarah Lee a one-shot advantage after the opening day of the Michelob ULTRA Open.

Lee fired an 8-under 63 over the Kingsmill course and that was just enough to take the lead over Mi Hyun Kim, who won last week's LPGA Tour stop at the SemGroup Championship.

Laura Davies and Birdie Kim, winner of the U.S. Women's Open in 2005, both shot a 65, while Siew-Ai Lim, Britany Lincicome and Suzann Pettersen were all at 66.

Lee's round was highlighted by a string of five straight birdies beginning at the par-5 third. Among her birdie putts was a 35-footer at the fifth.

"Everything was working and it was very comfortable to play today," Lee said. "My irons were going nowhere so I took maybe an extra half-club to hit it aggressive and it worked."

Lorena Ochoa, the world's top-ranked female golfer, shot a 71 and was tied for 39th place.
