NHL: Buffalo 5, N.Y. Rangers 4

NEW YORK, May 6 (UPI) -- Jochen Hecht scored twice Sunday afternoon, as the Buffalo Sabres beat the New York Rangers, 5-4, to advance to the Eastern Conference finals.

Hecht's second goal turned out to be the game winner, as the Sabres eliminated the Rangers in six games.

The Sabres will meet Ottawa in the conference finals. The Senators eliminated the New Jersey Devils in five games in their semifinal series.

Daniel Briere had three assists and Ryan Miller posted 32 saves for Buffalo -- which nearly blew a two-goal lead late in the third period.

Michael Nylander scored with less than three minutes left, and the Rangers staged a furious attack as the clock ran down.

Nylander had two goals, Martin Straka had three assists and Henrik Lundqvist allowed five goals on 29 shots faced.
