MLB: Chi. Cubs 4, Washington 3 (10)

CHICAGO, May 6 (UPI) -- Daryle Ward hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning Sunday afternoon, as the Chicago Cubs beat Washington, 4-3.

Ward, who saved the day against his former team, had a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the ninth to help the Cubs tie the score against Washington closer Chad Cordero.

Ryan Theriot hit an RBI single, and Jacque Jones drove in a run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth. Ward had two hits, and Jones had five hits in the three-game series for the Cubs, who won for the fifth straight time.

The winner was closer Ryan Dempster (1-1).

Dmitri Young hit a two-run single in the seventh, Brian Schneider drove in a run, and Ryan Langerhans scored a run and had two of the six hits for the Nationals, who suffered their fifth straight loss.

The losing pitcher was Ryan Wagner (0-2).
