MLB: Minnesota 2, Boston 1

MINNEAPOLIS, May 5 (UPI) -- Johan Santana pitched five solid innings and four relievers shut down the Red Sox the rest of the way Saturday night, as the Minnesota Twins beat Boston, 2-1.

Santana (4-2) allowed seven hits and a run. Matt Guerrier, Jesse Crain and Pat Neshek combined to shut out the Red Sox for the next 2 2/3 innings and Joe Nathan got the final four outs for his eighth save.

The Twins had just four hits and the Red Sox left 12 men on base.

Minnesota centerfielder Torii Hunter extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a double in the sixth inning for the Twins, and Jason Tyner and Jason Bartlett drove in the Minnesota runs.

Dustin Pedroia had two hits, including an RBI double for Boston.

Julian Tavarez (1-3) struck out seven in six innings, but was charged with four hits and two runs.
