MUNICH, Germany, May 5 (UPI) -- Crowd favorite Philipp Kohlschreiber Saturday beat No. 4 seed Marcos Baghdatis, 6-2, 6-3, in the semifinals of the BMW Open Tennis Tournament in Munich.
With his surprisingly easy victory, Kohlschreiber will attempt to become the first German to win the Munich event in 13 years. Michael Stich won it in 1994.
"Especially at home, in my hometown it's amazing the feeling," Kohlschreiber said about playing in Sunday's final. "I hope I win the tournament here. You want to show them not only on television, also live, that you're a good player and show good tennis. I'm on the highest mountain right now and I hope I can go on."
His opponent Sunday will be third-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny, who topped No. 2 seed Thomas Berdych of the Czech Republic, 6-4, 6-3.
The winner will earn $76,000.
Kohlschreiber leads the career series against Youzhny, having beaten him in their only meeting last year in Moscow.
