SAN JOSE, Calif., May 3 (UPI) -- Mathieu Schneider scored a power-play goal with 3:56 remaining in the first overtime Wednesday as Detroit rallied to defeat San Jose 3-2.

San Jose seemed headed for a commanding series lead, owning a two-goal advantage late in the second period. But Tomas Holmstrom brought the Red Wings within a goal with just five seconds left in the period and Robert Lang tied it with only 29 seconds remaining in the third.

Schneider's winning goal came after Craig Rivet was slow reaching the bench on a change and was the subject of a penalty for too many men on the ice.
