ESTORIL, Portugal, April 30 (UPI) -- Olga Poutchkova needed a third-set tiebreaker Monday to advance to the second round of the $145,000 Estoril Open tennis tournament in Portugal.
The fifth-seeded Poutchkova took the first set from Anastassia Rodionova 6-3 but dropped the second 6-4. She won the final set with a 7-5 decision in the tiebreaker to claim her first-round match in the clay-court tournament.
Also Monday, third-seeded Lucie Safarova dropped 13 games but still walked away with a straight-set 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 victory over Aravane Rezai.
Other winners Monday at the Estoril Open were Nuria Llagostera Vives and Victoria Azarenka.
The tournament champion will take home $21,140.
