CARSON, Calif., April 29 (UPI) -- Landon Donovan had a goal and two assists Saturday night as the Los Angeles Galaxy beat Chivas USA, 3-1, in the first Super Clasico meeting between the teams.
Kevin Harmse and Cobi Jones also scored for the Galaxy (1-1-1), which climbed out of the MLS Western Conference basement with the win.
LA scored twice in the first 17 minutes of the game -- scoring first when Donovan picked up a carom after Chivas goalie Brad Guzan and defender Claudio Suarez collided while going for a loose ball in the box. Harmse scored on a give-and-go feed from Donovan less than 10 minutes later.
Chivas made it 2-1 18 minutes into the second half when Suarez scored by deflecting a shot by Jesse Marsch into the net, with Francisco Mendoza picking up an assist on the play.
Donovan iced the game in the 78th minute with an unassisted goal.
