Bonds hits 742nd home run

PHOENIX, April 28 (UPI) -- San Francisco's Barry Bonds hit the 742nd home run of his career Saturday, a two-run shot in the first inning off Arizona's Edgar Gonzalez.

Bonds, who has eight homers this season, is 13 shy of Hank Aaron's all-time record Major League Baseball of 755 home runs.

Bonds has homered on all dates between April 1 and Oct. 7 during his career, with the exception of three: Aug. 5, Sept. 30 and Oct. 6. He has homered in four of his last six games, and his 19 home runs are the most by a visiting player at Chase Field.
