Virginia Tech to be saluted at NFL draft

NEW YORK, April 27 (UPI) -- The NFL plans a ceremony, featuring Virginia Tech Coach Frank Beamer and three former Tech players, to pay respect to the school's shooting victims.

A total of 32 people were killed on the Virginia Tech campus in the April 16 shootings. As a memorial to the tragedy, the NFL will have a ceremony at the Radio City Music Hall and the likely first-round choices invited to New York will wear Virginia Tech pins.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, cornerback DeAngelo Hall and former defensive end Bruce Smith -- who all played collegiately at Virginia Tech -- will be introduced along with Beamer by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

"I appreciate the National Football League wanting to honor those who lost family members in the tragedy here and showing its support for our school," Beamer told the Roanoke (Va.) Times Friday.

The school could have as many as three players selected in the first round, including safety Aaron Rouse and wide receiver David Clowney.
