NEW ORLEANS, April 20 (UPI) -- Mark Calcavecchia shot 3-under 69 Friday to take a one-shot lead midway through the PGA's Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
The 25-year tour veteran -- who won the PODS Championship at Palm Harbor, Fla., in March -- is at 9-under 135 after 36 holes, including a bogey-free round Friday.
"I have a lot of self doubt and a lot of demons that are floating around inside of my head," the former British Open winner told PGA.com. "Golfers can be pretty self-deprecating. It happens to a lot of guys, the things we think about out there pretty much freak you out."
Lucas Glover (69) and Nick Watney (67) are tied for second at 8-under 136.
Charlie Hoffman (69) and first-round leader Kyle Reifers (73) are tied for fourth at 7-under 137.
Among those who missed the cut were Bob Tway (144), Heath Slocum (144) and Fred Funk (145).
