ST. LOUIS, April 17 (UPI) -- Tom Gorzelanny allowed one run over 8 1/3 innings Tuesday in helping the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 6-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
The win was the 500th of Pirates Manager Jim Tracy's career.
Gorzelanny improved to 2-0 by giving up just four hits. He struck out two and walked three.
A fifth-inning sacrifice fly by the Cardinals Gary Bennett accounted for the lone St. Louis run -- snapping a Gorzelanny scoreless inning string at 12 -- but by then the Pirates had scored five times.
Two St. Louis errors helped Pittsburgh score twice in the first off Adam Wainwright (1-1). Chris Duffy walked and scored when Jack Wilson's single got past the Cardinals' outfield. Wilson scored when David Eckstein overthrew first base on a ground ball.
The Pirates scored three times in the third inning with Wilson and Jason Bay singling ahead of Adam LaRoche's second home run of the season.
Ronny Paulino's run-scoring double in the Pittsburgh seventh completed the scoring.
