DENVER, April 16 (UPI) -- Barry Zito worked the first six innings of a shutout Monday as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Colorado Rockies 8-0.
Zito (1-2), who has a seven-year, $126 million contract, earned his first win in a Giants uniform. He scattered three hits and walked three.
The 28-year-old lefthander spent his first six-plus seasons with the Oakland Athletics, winning 102 games -- including a career-best 23 in 2002.
Omar Vizquel went 4-for-5, with two RBI and two runs scored for the Giants, who have won three of their last four games. Ray Durham had a three-run homer and Rich Aurilia had two RBI for San Francisco.
Jeff Francis (1-1) allowed seven runs on nine hits with three walks in five innings for Colorado, which has lost five of its last six games.
