MLB: Boston 7, LA Angels 2

BOSTON, April 16 (UPI) -- Josh Beckett allowed one run over six innings Monday in pitching the Boston Red Sox to a 7-2 victory over the LA Angels of Anaheim.

Beckett improved to 3-0 on the season and Boston's Davis Ortiz hit a home run and Manny Ramirez drove two others in support. All the Boston runs came off Angels starter Ervin Santana (1-2), who allowed six runs in the first inning.

The traditional Patriots Day game was moved back about two hours from the scheduled 10 a.m. start because of poor weather, but the Red Sox were hot from their first at bat.

Julio Lugo opened the Boston first with a double and scored on Kevin Youkilis's single to center. Ortiz doubled and Ramirez drove in both runners with a base hit. Ramirez scored on a botched force out attempt and Mike Lowell and Alex Cora finished the rally with run-scoring doubles.

Ortiz got the final Red Sox run with a two-out home run in the fourth inning.

The Angels led after a home run in the top of the first from Orlando Cabrera but were shut down by Beckett and two relievers before Howie Kendrick hit a home run in the ninth for Anaheim.
