CLEVELAND, April 6 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Indians' home opener was snowed out Friday night, but only after several delays and a head's up decision by Seattle's Jose Lopez.
The game will be played Saturday as part of a day-night doubleheader.
More snow is in the forecast for Saturday night.
This is Seattle's only visit to Jacobs Field this season, so the teams are hoping to get the games played. This is also a four-game series.
The Indians were one strike away from possibly getting Paul Byrd a snow-shortened no-hitter.
With Cleveland in front, 4-0, in the top of the fifth inning, the bases were loaded when Lopez was at the plate facing a 1-2 count.
He complained that he could not see the ball because of the intense snow.
Seattle Manager Mike Hargrove then came out to argue, which led to a further delay.
Finally, umpires decided to call the contest after more than an hour of trying to clear the field.
