Sweden up 2-0 over Argentina in Davis Cup

GOTHENBURG, Sweden, April 6 (UPI) -- Robin Soderling had 20 service aces Friday powering Sweden to a 2-0 lead over Argentina in the Davis Cup quarterfinals.

Soderling opened the best-of-five pairing with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win over Argentine Juan Martin del Potro with a powerful serve fueling the straight-set win. The Swedes pushed their advantage to 2-0 when Thomas Johansson stopped David Nalbandian 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, 7-6 (7-0).

Sweden, which was swept 5-0 by Argentina in the first round of the 2006 Davis Cup, will look to sew up a trip to the semifinals in Saturday's double match. The Swedes will send out Jonas Bjorkman and Robert Lindstedt against Argentina's Nalbandian and Sebastian Prieto.

Reserve singles Sunday find Nalbandian playing Soderling and del Porto going against Johansson.

The winner of the quarterfinal in Sweden will meet the winner of a United States-Spain quarterfinal in the Davis Cup semifinals.
