MLB: Arizona 4, Washington 3

WASHINGTON, April 5 (UPI) -- Chris Young knocked in two runs Thursday night to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Washington Nationals, 4-3.

Young smacked a two-run single as part of a three-run top of the first inning. Conor Jackson drew a bases-loaded walk in the first, and Orlando Hudson belted a solo home run in the top of the third.

Winning pitcher Edgar Gonzalez (1-0) yielded two runs and seven hits over five innings, with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Jose Valverde earned his second save of the new season.

Micah Bowie hit an RBI groundout in the fourth, Dmitri Young hit a solo home run in fifth and Brian Schneider hit an RBI groundout in the seventh for Washington.

Loser Jason Bergmann (0-1) gave up four runs -- all earned --and five hits in 3 2/3 innings, with six walks and one strikeout.
