CASCAIS, Portugal, April 1 (UPI) -- Spain's Pablo Martin-Benavides Sunday was a one-shot winner of the European Tour's Estoril Open Golf Tournament at Cascais, Portugal.
The 20-year-old Martin-Benavides, who plays at Oklahoma State University, shot 3-under-par 68 in the final round to finish with a score of 7-under 277.
He is the first amateur ever to win a European Tour event, and earned the Jack Nicklaus award as the top college player in the United States last year.
"(The victory) feels great, absolutely great," he said, despite not being able to collect the winner's check because of his amateur status. "I am really happy and proud."
Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin (67) was second at 6-under 278. He made a birdie putt at the last hole to put pressure on the winner.
