COL BKB: Georgetown 66, Vanderbilt 65

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., March 23 (UPI) -- Jeff Green made a short jumper with three seconds left Friday night, giving Georgetown a 66-65 win over Vanderbilt in the NCAA Tournament regional semifinals.

The Hoyas survived an upset bid in advancing to the East Region title game on Sunday against either North Carolina or USC.

Vanderbilt took the lead with 18 seconds remaining on two free throws by Dan Cage, which came after he was fouled by Patrick Ewing, Jr.

After a time out the ball was worked down to Green, who leaned into the lane and made a soft jump shot. Television replays indicated Green moved his pivot foot before dribbling the ball, but no traveling call was made.

Vanderbilt's Alex Gordon's desperation three-point attempt from just inside midcourt at the buzzer was blocked away.

Green and DaJuan Summers both scored 15 points to pace Georgetown (30-6) while the Commodores (22-13) were led by 17 points each from Cage and Derrick Byars.

Vanderbilt owned an eight-point halftime lead.
