Carolina scored twice early in the third period to overcome a 3-2 Capitals lead.

The win on their home ice kept the Carolinians tied with Montreal for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

"We're playing the game the right way, offensively the chances are coming, the power play is cranking out chances left and right, we just can't drop one," said Cam Ward, who took over in goal in the third period.

Alexander Ovechkin scored twice and Alexander Semin had two assists for the Capitals, who have dropped two straight.
